An audio story here is three to thirty minutes of fiction, written for one brief and one listener. It isn't a recording pulled from a catalogue — nothing existed until you asked for it — and it isn't a summary of something else. It is a small, whole story: a beginning, a turn, and an ending that lands in the time you gave it.
Because each one is written to order, the library you build is yours in a way a subscription shelf never is. The story where the bread stall at the dawn market carried your grandmother's name only exists because you asked for it.
Your characters, your places
Keep a cast. Custom characters and places live in your account — a name, a few lines of description — and can turn up in any brief you write. The free plan holds three of each; the paid plans go up to thirty. On The Great Gatsby plan and above you can add a free-text note as well, and the story will honour the detail you care about.
Then choose how it reads — Simple, Everyday, Rich or Literary — and which of six narrators reads it. Character dialogue is voiced separately from the narrator, on every plan, so a conversation sounds like one. Hear the narrators before you decide.
A player made for small things
Every story arrives with its own cover: a scene drawn for the story on The Great Gatsby plan and above, a preset scene otherwise. The player shows where you are, skips back fifteen seconds for the line you missed, and carries on from the lock screen. Stop halfway and the story waits under Continue listening.
Playlists hold up to ten stories: a shelf for long drives, one for the bath, one for the nights that need a lighthouse. Play them in order or shuffled, on iOS, Android or the web — your library and your place in each story follow you between them.
