What "storyteller" means here
An AI storyteller, in our sense, does three jobs a search bar never will. It listens to a brief — something quiet, a harbour town, fifteen minutes — and treats it as a commission, not a query. It writes one story for that brief, once, rather than surfacing a story someone else already had. And then it reads the story to you, because a story told aloud lands differently from one on a screen.
Every story is new. Nothing is pulled from a shelf of templates, and no two evenings produce the same text. If you'd like a particular cast or a specific street, keep your own characters and places in the app and bring them into the brief.
The brief is three small choices
A feeling, a place, and how long you have. Cozy or noir, a glasshouse in winter or a night train, five minutes or thirty. That is genuinely all it needs. On The Great Gatsby plan and above you can also add a few lines of your own — a name, an object, the ending you'd like — and the storyteller will honour them.
You also choose how the prose should read: Simple, Everyday, Rich or Literary. The same brief can arrive as plain, quick English or as something ornate and demanding, depending on the evening you want.
Six narrators, and a voice for every character
The narrators are the part people remember. Iris is warm and hushed, soft British. Fen is wry and weathered, Irish. Auden is grand and patient, mid-Atlantic. Marlowe is playful and sly, southern US. Saoirse is clear and poetic, Scottish. Tomás is low and confidential, Iberian. You pick one per story, and can hear each of them before you decide.
When characters speak, they get their own voices, cast line by line, so a conversation sounds like two people in a room rather than one reader doing both parts. That is true on every plan, including the free one.
Lengths, genres, and the honest part
Stories run from three minutes to half an hour, in three-minute steps; how far you can go depends on your plan. Genres cover the usual shelves and a few odd ones: cozy, literary, fable, mystery, whimsy, adventure, slice of life, essay, folk tale, science fiction, romance and noir.

Is the AI storyteller free to try?
Yes. A new account comes with four welcome minutes, enough for a first three-minute story, no card required. Paid plans start at $1.99 a month for 30 listening minutes.
Can I choose the narrator?
Every time. One of six narrators reads each story, and you can pick a different one for the next.
Does it work on my phone?
Just Story It is on iOS, Android and the web. Stories you make on one show up on the others, and the playback controls sit on the lock screen.
Will it remember my characters?
If you save them. Custom characters and places live in your account and can be brought into any brief; how many you can keep depends on your plan — three of each on the free plan, up to thirty on the largest.
